1. As you prepare for the holidays, it's helpful to start with reflecting on what brings you joy during this time. Whether it's the warmth of family gatherings or the festive decorations, identifying these moments can amplify your holiday experience. What do you enjoy most about the holidays? What makes the holiday season feel special to you? Take a moment to consider your response, think about how you can cultivate more mindfulness in these moments of happiness. What keeps you from being present in your joy? How can you pause and be present in it?
2. Amidst the cheer, stress often creeps in, whether from financial pressures, hectic schedules, hiding emotions, or strained family dynamics-- What about the holidays has been the most stressful? How does this stress manifest? What are some possible strategies that you could implement to alleviate feelings of tension or stress?
3. Take a moment to recognize that the holidays can stir up complex emotions, especially for those grappling with grief, sadness, loss, or isolation. If you are experiencing grief, disconnection or loss, what are your expectations for the holidays? What is your honest and lived experience of the holidays? Acknowledge these emotions with compassion and openness; how can you find solace without dismissing feelings that are present? How can you honor how you are feeling?
