It’s time to start narrowing down all these thoughts into one word for your intention. Remember: Intentions are how you show up in pursuit of that goal – they are about your relationship with yourself and others.
Example: My goal is to get a raise this year, my intention is to live my days with confidence and self-worth.
My word: Worthy
- As you’re narrowing down on your one word, think about it as a personal mantra, a touchstone of choice, that inspires and helps guide decisions and actions in the upcoming year. Of everything you’ve written down, what word or words are sticking out to you?
- Write a list of a few words that are coming to mind. Think through the meaning of each for you. Write out your short list of words.
- Once you’ve got your word, write it down at the top of a new page.
- Below it, you’ll write two things
- Your definition of that word, what it means to you.
- Your why. (Make this why completely “INTERNAL.” Think of this as your motivation behind the why. Go deep, like values level! If your “why” is to make more money this year, what does that money mean to you? Freedom, agency, ability to give back? )
“As long as we keep attaching our happiness to the external events of our lives, which are ever changing, we’ll always be left waiting for it.” - Tara Brach
