Module 4: Embodied Decision Making

This exercise will guide you in making choices that truly resonate with your unique needs, by integrating the analytical power of your mind with the intuitive signals from your body. Making a well-rounded decision is an art that harmonizes both mind wisdom and body wisdom.

Often, we rely solely on our minds to make decisions, overlooking the rich insights our bodies provide. Yet, our feelings are deeply connected to our physical sensations. For instance, when we feel nervous, we might experience a tight chest or a knotted stomach. Conversely, when we are at peace, these areas may feel loose and relaxed.

Our bodies are constantly communicating with us, offering valuable information that complements our mental processes.

By paying attention to these physical cues, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of our emotions and needs. This balanced approach ensures that our decisions are not only logical but also aligned with our true selves.

To facilitate this process, I invite you to listen to the following meditation. This practice will guide you through connecting with both your mind and body, helping you tune into the subtle messages each part is sending. The meditation will ask you to bring to mind a decision that you need to make. You will come up with two options, and then use a mind-body visualization to help determine your truest answer.

If you'd like, go ahead and think about that decision now before you settle into the meditation.

After the meditation, you can complete the provided chart below to clearly process the two options around your decision. This structured reflection will enable you to weigh both mental and physical responses, leading to decisions that honor the full spectrum of your inner wisdom.

Pro tip: in order to strengthen this muscle, practice this approach while making risk-free decisions, such as what to wear or what to eat. You’ll be amazed at how quickly this can become integrated into your life!

Final Thoughts

When you practice this mind-body approach, you'll begin to subconsciously and consciously make decisions small and large - that feel authentic, and thus less stressful to you. These practical steps will allow you to feel more confident and at home in your decisions!
