Module 6: Linking Goal Setting to Your Intention

Goal setting- Goal setting is all about figuring out what you want to achieve and making a plan to get there. It's about setting clear, realistic goals that you can measure and giving yourself a timeline to complete them. This process helps you stay motivated and focused, making it easier to prioritize tasks and track your progress until you reach your goals.

1. Using your intention as a starting point, loosely jot down some goals that you have for this upcoming year. Some questions to help get you started. If you have the time, try flow writing to answer these questions. What is flow writing? Well this means that you don’t let your pen stop for the entire time block. This allows for you to get out of your critical brain and access your unfiltered thoughts and deeper desires. Even if that means writing “I don't know” until something comes to you. Set a timer, and let yourself go.

  • What do you want to do more of this year? (Hint: Think about what is MOST important to you. )
  • Where do you see yourself going?
  • What do you want to accomplish?

2. Select one thing you'd like to focus on. You can repeat this process as many times as you would like for the other goals that you have. This goal doesn’t need to be perfect at this time, you will have the opportunity to fine-tune it later.

My Goal:

3. Double check: is this goal in congruence with my intention? For example: The goal might be getting a promotion at work, but the intention underneath it may be to feel purposeful in the work that you are doing.  Other possible intentions for this example could be:

  • To gain confidence in my work
  • To be true to myself
  • Re-engage with passions

Why this matters: Because of a myriad of reasons, you may reach the goal or you might not. The goal might not even be important anymore when it is all said and done. But, if the intention has been met/fulfilled, then we have still honored ourselves in the pursuit of the goal.

4. Take a moment to list the qualities you can embody in pursuit of your goal.

Example: If the underlying intention connected to a job promotion is feeling purposeful in the work that you are doing, then start to think about the qualities that type of person embodies:

  • Makes creativity a priority in their life.
  • Doesn’t dismiss new ideas; is open and accepting
  • Listens to learn and detaches from ego to improve.
  • They foster kind self talk

Neuroplasticity practice: These qualities are the stepping stones to living out your intention. You are setting a game plan for how you want to act, think, or be when/if that moment arises.
